I use different kind of redirects for my sites... 301 is best, but meta refresh 0 - i think still works.

Think clever and Blackhat. You need backup plane, that means couple of active domains. When your main domain is outranked, use 301 or mata refresh redirect to new one. (Dont blast or hammer competitors site, just blast your own with relevant keywords)
