They are both correct. Some domains just have their authority split among subdomains because the previous owner wasn't smart enough to use a canonical domain.

I prefer CNN.com. The releases get indexed quickly too.

In my experience a quality expired domain will rarely be available for hand registration. It will likely be discovered by other drop catchers, and you'll have to battle it out in an auction, at which point you'll end up paying real money for it (which is fine, by the way, if your budget allows it).

Geez I have a site that's been stuck as #4 (on page 1) for almost 3 years, even though it's an exact match .com. Rankings are not easy.
