Getting back to SEO in a very long time and this was a good read as i'm trying to do more white hat than black hat on my personal company. Always try to combine social aspect into your website somehow to make site "alive" for google so you dont need to build any links as people might be tempted...

For sure bet you should build links from social sites (create social accounts pointing to your company site - twitter - facebook pages - pinterest... so on) but try to avoid building links outside social for time being until you feel confident in doing it.
