There is no limited number of backlinks for each page as long as they are done manually. Plus, all of the backlinks should be relevant to your niche/keywords.

I do pinging and rss submission myself. Also, add some 2nd tier linking methods like profile links, social bookmarking or high PR blog comments. I got really good results then ;)
