Exactly. It's often being used to recover the content from these expired domains, however it's blackhat technique because you don't own the rights. Search the forum for more, there were even some scrapers made for archive.org.

The calendar dates are dates when archive.org made snapshots of the site. E. g. If there is 25th December available, you'll see what the content of the site looked like on 25th December.

Don’t you use Google Custom Search on your site? According to the wiki on ryte.com (I can’t link yet due to low post count, sorry) it monitors changes in the sitemap, so it instantly index new changes. Even if you’re not using it right now, it might come handy.
