But Google has pretty good spam protection, so unless your writing is impeccable or the email comes from a legitimate account, I would think that this doesn't help much. Also, I'd imagine that they'll add new spam protections against emails from new or spammy Google+ accounts.

Short answer: Yes.

If you ignore google, you're alienating 80% of your potential client base. Even if you had the most popular site in your niche on bing, it would without a doubt, make less money than a website ranking decently on google.

One of my major competitors users Shopify. Customers seem to be drawn to the simple layout and user compatibility. Our monthly income is about neck-and-neck despite the fact that my eCommerce site is much more complex than his. Shopify might be the way to go.
