I wouldn't waste your efforts on blogging if you are concerned with Maps ranking there are better solutions.

Maps are interesting. Your website is a factor but the signals that matter are all on the Google Business Profile. What did you experience?

Arguably there is more money ranking in the map pack. So if you get to position 5 and misstep you can fall into the teens.

Browser location trumps IP location. I can be in the middle of Missouri and my IP location is Saint Louis. It would be silly for Google to consider the IP location if there is a much more reliable feature built into the browser.
