Talk to him about his biz... i.e. things like, "when your customers come to you, what do they ask about, what do they buy from you, what else are they interested in." Or... what are your specialties, what are your goals... things along those lines. DON'T talk to him about "keywords" and "SEO"...

Yea, I had this happen with the first product I ever promoted. Ton of traffic, and hops and no sales... couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Turns out, the vendor was being dishonest. Now I am much more careful.
