Outreach to people within your nice and offer them to trade links or buy links directly through contacting quality website owners. What I discovered is that quality > quantity, I rather get one strong "natural" (not really since paid/traded) than 10 weak useless links.

Try multiple websites/blogs with different approaches each. One has to eventually gain some traction and you'll continue with that one. And if multiple websites take off you'll have multiple income streams.
