I've used them as a webhost in the past, they were excellent and responded to my questions within a day. Havemt tried their VPS though..

I have used 1and1 recently for several domains, however their customer support is awful. Two of my domains were suddenly unavailable last monday and I still haven't received a reply from them... Imo it is worth it to go with Namecheap or a more trustworthy domain provider.
