If the site is big enough it will be almost impossible to see all of the back links. You can see most of them though. Your best bet is to use multiple checkers since each one will find links that the others miss. Ahrefs, Moz, and Majestic will be your best bet. PS: There are quite a few free...

On site stuff is pretty easy to learn. You might be better off doing it yourself.

If you have serious traffic its best to go with a vps or reseller. Ive had issues with hostgater but only when I have a ton of traffic.

I like Adobe Premiere. It has a steep learning curve though. If you can do photo shop really well than learning premiere is pretty easy.
