Probably worth the price, but not for ranking #1 in the UK, if that's what you're trying to do.

You have to provide some kind of results, so the tougher the client, the more you'll need to know. Your average small business owner will probably not be very tech savvy and won't have any SEO knowledge so anything you do have will be enough to provide some kind of service.

Yeah I'd recommend avoiding sidebar and especially footer links as much as possible.

Yeah agreed. Doesn't hurt to have a few to make a backlink profile look more natural but other than that they won't do much good.

1. Detect if the user has adblocking 2. If not, add target="_blank" to the links using JS

Doesn't matter. Both Adblock Plus and Ublock Origin detect where the links are redirected.
