No you don't need a vpn. You can run it off your computer however it has to stay on while you run it. The benefit to running a vpn is that you can leave it running 24/7.

You don't need a proxy if you are running 1 or 2 accounts. However if you plan on running more accounts, it is recommended that you get a proxy, or you run the risk of getting a your accounts banned. 1-2 accounts per proxy is considered "safe"

Good luck! I'm also on this journey.. I have a few bigger account which were botted. However I started a manual account and will not be using bots on it. A friend of mine says boting decreases engagement. So we will see if the manual page does better.
