I generally use Google's own Keyword planner after extensive research on forums and competitors. You have a few other ones like Long Tail Pro and Market Samurai, but to me they all seem clunky -- and they distance you from the actual market research.

You need captcha solving and you need to build a verified list by scraping in SB, Gscraper or similar preferably on a dedicated VPS and a dedicated server (not VPS) for GSA-- if not, GSA runs like a joke. Running a proper setup costs a few hundred dollars a month.

It's all about settings, proxies and the box you're running it on.

I usually start by backlinking to category heads and the main lander, and then I hit the stubborn inner pages with a few links. With good interlinking (not necessarily siloing), you will accomplish a lot!
