Yes, it does matter a lot. My old post could be ranking on that keyword but it will get less clicks because the title and descriptions are not optimized for that particular keyword.

Maybe its over optimized but I really paid attention to my keyword density to conform with the standards. Yes, all I did was put the new keyword in my old post which I used to link it to the new post. But the result is that, the old post turns out to be the one that is ranking.

Thanks for the input but the canonical method that you mentioned here sounds too complicated. I would rather choose the first option which is to wait for the Big G and hope for the best that the keyword targeted post will be prioritized for ranking. As of right now, the old post remains on the...
