Wait..honestly? Since when is giving credit not enough for someone's work? I write research papers, I include quotes and images and a reference to the source is more than enough for all universities here :/

Maybe it's same old same old advice but Pick a demanding niche, write UNIQUE and interesting articles, tell people about it..and a few months in...start monetizing.

Why not just source your images? In my blog, I always include in the footer where the image was found.

SEO won't help you get your adsense approved, at least not to my knowledge. Read the rules and regulations of Google Adsense(now adchoices) and read them as your bible. Make sure your web site has unique content and it's user-optimized.
