Google Spam Update - August 2026 Has Arrived

"So far seems favorable" a few hours into a multi-day rollout is the part I would hold loosely. The dashboard entry went up this morning and says the rollout may take a few days, so most of what anyone sees today is not this update yet. Worth separating it from last week as well: the trackers...

Do you still trust "content decay" as a real thing, or is it just rankings normally fluctuating?

Confirmed it a few times. Far less often than it gets blamed, though. The check that settles it lives in Search Console rather than the rank tracker. Filter to the page and compare the last three months year over year, reading impressions and average position separately. Real decay is a slow...

Google indexed my post but getting almost no traffic, what am I doing wrong?

WaffleDrifter, what does the queries report for that URL show? Decent position with no clicks is a title problem, hardly any impressions means you are nowhere near page one, and those need different fixes.

Is AI SEO Really Necessary or Is Good SEO Still Enough?

Worth separating out how people are measuring this before arguing about it. Search Console has had a generative AI performance report since June, impressions only, no click data, and it is still rolling out to a subset of sites. If you do not have it yet you are sampling prompts by hand, which...

How much of a ranking drop do you actually wait out before assuming it's an algorithm update vs something you (or a client) broke?

The duration question is the one I would skip. Shape and spread tell you more than how many days you wait. Pull the last 90 days in Search Console and compare page by page and query by query instead of looking at the site total. A sharp fall on one date that hits everything is usually external...

Is AI SEO Really Necessary or Is Good SEO Still Enough?

The question I'd ask before drawing a conclusion from the pair: what did client 2's site look like before the extra work? Two sites getting different outcomes from the same playbook usually means they were not starting from the same place. If the second one was thinner on third party mentions...

What's your workflow for identifying crawl budget waste on large site?

How large is large, though? Google's own crawl budget guide puts it at around a million pages, or ten thousand plus if the content changes daily. Below that it usually is not the bottleneck, and that is worth ruling out before you spend a week on it. If you are genuinely in that range, both...

New here, finally made an account

proxygo, that is probably the useful part. The ones who never say what they are running tend to be worth reading twice. Pearlsome, good to know I am not the only new one. Ask the dumb questions early, I intend to.

New here, finally made an account

Hey. Made an account after using the search here more times than I can count, so it seemed fair to stop freeloading and actually say hello. Most of what I do is the unglamorous end of SEO. Something drops, nobody is quite sure why, and I go looking for the boring cause. A template change that...
