I use SEO Quake which is a Firefox addon, as well as telling you lots of other usefull information the search engine results, like the PR of a site and the alexa rank...
it also has a feature to put a line through any links which are not followed by the search engines.

I would reckon about 5-10% will take action on a product they buy, the rest will have a quick look at it, initially get excited about the potential of the product, then say to themselves they will look at the rest later and take action...
But what happens then is, they go back to their inbox...
A good method I use is leaving comments on blogs where the links are followed by the SE's, I choose blog posts related to the keywords I'm are trying to rank for, I then add the keywords after my name so they appear as anchor text, without looking too spammy.
