I’ve noticed the same thing. Good on page and citations can get you close, but in many cases a few strong local or niche backlinks are what actually push a listing into the top spots. I still use them because they work, especially in competitive areas. Curious if others are seeing similar results.

Not really bad luck. Even well-optimized sites can fail if they lack authority, trust, or strong backlinks. Competition, search intent, and small technical issues can also hold a site back. Ranking depends on many factors, not just on-page SEO.
