I usually look for keywords with low competition but steady search, not just trends. also check if big brands are not dominating it, it has better chance to stay stable.

I think they just just last a bit longer sometimes, not really safer. if your setup is risky, it will still get flagged sooner or later.

I think both matter, but internal linking is something you fully control so it helps a lot. backlinks still important too, they push rankings faster in most cases.
