simple build hella backlinks on web 2.0 properties (100s of them out there) and then build more links on content-related sites. repeat steps one and two for eternity.

I've tried it, but I didn't like the user interface. It did its job somewhat i guess, got me about 50% of the amount of links i was expecting. I guess you'll have to try it for yourself and see if its worth its salt for your purposes.
