Don't think the tld matters much. Take for example something from the SEO nieche: Keywords. If you Google the phrase Keyword tools, you'd see Google places keywordtool.io at the top pf the SERPS, even above their own Google Ads keyword tool (2nd), and other big reputable .com tld sites.

If blackhatters' IQ wasn't very high, why would Google be fighting their methods so vigorously?

As for submitting sites to directories, I stopped doing that many years ago. Can't remember exactly when, probably around the time they shut down DMOZ (god rest its soul). Directories don't offer users any real value, so their links should be pretty useless SEO-wise.

If its text that you've written then sure you can.

Even if the site is dead and the content is no longer published, the original owner still owns the copyrights for those materials. Not telling what to do (or what not to do), just making sure you are aware of it.

I haven't tried it myself with Google service, but you have many virtual SMS service providers that you can your for account validation. The free ones probably won't work, but you can get paid ones for a couple of bucks which probably will
