In my experience the number depends on the subreddit. 50 may be nothing on the biggest but on some that will be way to big. I compare what the top ones are getting in any sub and try to keep in that range.
Why don't the people who make panels just use those panels themselves to make money for themselves from what they offer instead of selling the services? If your services can make someone else money you should be able to make money for yourself with it too.
