We even recommend starting with 2 / week and then maybe ramp it up slowly. Google really doesn't care how the content is produced. But it cares if you start spamming content (however it is produced).
And it helps if you add in internal + external links, some images / infographics or other media...
Here's a quick workflow you can use:
Google site:yoursite.com to check which pages are indexed
Check if you block indexing (e.g. noindex tag)
Check if the content is "good enough" (e.g. not very thin)
Submit your URLs to Google Search Console

But if you have time, doing what @tiiberius said, judging the SERPs and check for search intent, topical authority, etc. is even better.
Not a dedicated keyword tool, but try GSC. Check if there are keywords you have impressions, but not the exact content for.

Start by looking at who ranks in the top spots. Check the page quality and backlink profile.
This should give you at least some indicator of how realistic it's to rank #1. And how big the gap is.
Sometimes it's just impossible with a given budget.
