I don't think there is any such risk. If there's a constant fear, check out your competition, see how they're working and what they're doing that you could. What they're not doing and why they aren't, or if you can do it successfully. If the risk scares you, then I'd suggest let it be for now...

Try a test first. See if monetizing right now gets you the returns you want or the goals you set for yourself. If not, grow some more and then monetize when you feel like you can achieve more.

Getting on the Homepage of YouTube isn't hard. I've got to it with likes 50-60k views within 24 hours. But yeah to get higher ranking you need to put in the traffic with a lot of speed. I have tried various tricks and some of them did get me as high as Rank 10 in the top 100 video list.
