Press Release is my favorite in boosting a new blog's ranking, usually with 4 links from good PR sites it will move several pages up almost instantly.

If I'm using my own domain I'll choose wordpress, but when I'm using subdomain my blogger sites always rank better than wordpress

It takes a lot of time to make money from blogging, if you're just starting out to make money online I suggest you also do some online freelance jobs, you can use the money to build a decent blog that can make money.
