when it got hit it was nasty, it was about jan 2013, we knew google was all over it, it took them about 3 months in waves to find it all and deindex the domains. We turned off all the content as soon as a site was hit, and then told the clients what happened. After closing it down, I rebuilt it...

I run a private blognetwork with 2K+ sites, over 500 IPs, 40K articles published (unique high quality 800 + words inc pics.) It's only ever been hit once in 8 years. ask me anything.

theres so many pbn sellers here, you might want to publish some information for others whos service you used, so others can judge for themsleves if its worth the risk, also you might want to do a link audit on your site to see whats happened, best to do one before and after using such services

There's been a lot of discussion about the latest google core updates, with many trying to figure out what changed. but it looks to me like they may have rolled it back whatever it was (for many at least) See some examples here...

The bonus of linking internally is that if the links go bad and you cant remove them you can 404 the page and loose the links that way

I wouldn't recommend adding more than about 1 link per week to start with, always monitor the effects of every single link you add, one link is enough to tank a site if they smell rats, also monitor your total back links, to make sure you are not acquiring non indexed links, or over optimised...
