I wouldn't say worth it, if you go for a platform that you can fully control and pay for, then it would be worth your time.

If your needs are basic, wordpress would be best to stick with. But again, you may want to give joomla, drupal and the like a try as well but those tend to be more appropriate for an extensive cms requirement.

The idea is simple my friend, build manual links, and when you know what works best, look for a tool that can help you automate what you were doing manually.
