You must have internet connection otherwise you couldn't connect to it. the best way to connect is Remote Desktop Connection, just reinsert the login info carefully. IE must have some protection activated(same happened to me), use firefox.

It's very unlikely that you will get sandboxed. Profile links do get indexed a little bit hard so anything you do to get them indexed faster will be good.
