I guess, if your service works (and, it seems to work well, going by user reviews), a regular $10/month Hostgator hosting will crash? If so, what is a good option for me to host on, before I can think of trying your service? Another idea will be to try on a parasite such as Facebook etc. - or do they ban accounts that are very low-traffic, if they suddenly see a spike of say 100,000 visitors?
Essentially, I am looking for some way to move forward with your service, without crashing my ongoing business. Please advise.

you'd need a dedicated server with good specs to handle the intense traffic from reddit.

Got it, and yes caching would help but a CDN would work much better.
Done.
To put it bluntly, the traffic you'd get from the first page of Reddit would cause a $10 shared host to go down faster than Kim Kardashian in a limo. I really suggest a VPS with a CDN.
A dedicated server would definitely be a step up from a VPS but the screenshots in the OP were taken with a good VPS along with a CDN.

I was rank 6 on reddit homepage for 12 hours or so. My post got 12k reddit upvotes. All natural. There were 2k+ comments on my post. There was a fuckload of traffic on my website And My hosting crashed.. I had my hosting on a $15 per month hosting and that crashed....
I dont know how to review this service properly. OP is the best. This is the real ninza shit.
I am currently in the process of shifting my website to another hosting and once i do- I am planing to buy this once for my website every month.

It depends, it could work but I'd have to see the URL and content if you have something in mind.
In the past 48 hours I've gotten clients a #1 spot and a #4 spot on popular. I'm happy to take a look at any site or video and give you my opinion about whether or not it would work. Not every site is going to play well on Reddit and I can't stress enough the importance of a good host!

OP's service definitely works.
He got me to #8 on the front page before my server crashed at 250 views per minute.
The total traffic was around 3,000 from the 90 or mins or so it went viral. Sadly the server took 12 hours to get back online.
I learned a lot from the experience and have since bought more RAM for the service.
