Quora isn't for generating backlinks or improving your SEO, it's for generating targeted traffic via answers.

Yes, that's true. But while replying, people leave their website's URL (as a backlink) in their signature (to attract traffic to their website).

How important this activity should be in SEO these days?

But links are nofollow, they have zero value but its good to get few nofollow links.

backlinks from quora wouldn't hurt but a relevant content to the audience should bring a lot of traffic

So, this should be an important part of SEO strategy.

All external links on Quora are tagged as nofollow, meaning that they don’t pass any SEO value to the target page but this is not all of it, nofollow links have some value, if they are at the right place.

Great.

Quora is a platform to find ur niche audience and engage with them
if you provide value, they will eventually visit ur site and convert

You need a mix of do-follow and no-follow to make links look natural.

The same with where these links come from, differing levels of authority as an example.

Yes, that makes sense.

Am I the only one who had to Google what's Quora?

Even if they're no-follow links, they're bringing real people to your site, people interested in your topic that will potentially buy your services or at least create a free account. If any of you are interested in how to bring more traffic to your site using Quora just send me a message.

;)
