Hey guys,

This is my 3rd attempt at monetising a website, first I tried a niche news site, then a viral news site using Facebook as a source for traffic, however I wasn't very well versed in the copyright policies of Facebook so they both subsequently were deleted.

However, as Roosevelt once said there is no effort without error ... so here I am trying my 3rd site.

I am familiar with adsense, so I imagine juicyads etc are similar, correct me if i'm wrong here.

With that said, I have a few questions...

1. How difficult is it to get accepted as a publisher on the adult ad providers?
2. Is this method still working? I know a couple guys on here have had success with porn, any tips are welcomed.
3. Is using ads the best way to monetise? I have no experience with affiliates but would like to include this somehow.
4. For those that have had success with this, what sort of time-frame are we looking at to start seeing decent results?
5. What potential copyright issues are there? If my video is hosted on an external site and embedded on mine am I covered?
6. Any recommended hosts for my site?
7. What sort of investment are we looking at, I know domain and hosting is cheap, can't think of anything other expenses I'd have?

Anything else relevant please do let me know, I want to do my best to get something decent going with this.

7. You're gravely wrong. Domains are cheap, hosting is not. Hosting is far, very far, from cheap when it comes to adult. If you want to half ass it, sure you can use some cheap server, but don't expect to make money. If you want to do it right, you want to make some good cash, then you're looking at dedicated servers. Quad CPU, 32-64gb RAM, SSD drives (and platter ones for the not so frequently accessed files), etc. You're also looking at $500 or so for any decent script. If you think you'll slap a site up with WordPress, forget it.

Adult sites are the largest bandwidth consumers in the world. You need massive CPU/Ram/HD to process and encode the videos in any decent amount of time, and you need insane bandwidth. Adult sites aren't too hard but every, single, successful one these days are run by geeks. Hardcore geeks. You need to be able to setup advanced servers, you need to be able to calculate how much bandwidth every user needs on average to make sure you're pulling in more money than you're putting out. The days of sticking up a few photos online and raking in money are long gone; you can still make exceedingly good money but you must be a hardcore geek to pull it off.

You mentioned hosted external and embedded on your site, that's not where the money is. Again, you can't half ass adult. Posting stuff from pornhub on your site, people will just go pornhub directly. You got to offer something better.

If you're looking for easy money, which is what I think you're after, move along. If you're looking for money, with some work, that can provide a stable income, then give it a try. That's why so many people say there's no money in adult. They're the ones that went online, posted a few photos, and are like "wtf bro!? I'm making 3 cents a day!?" but they're only getting like 200 visitors because why use their site? It's all hot linked BS from other places.

10-15 years ago, half ass worked, I made hundreds a day off a blogger.com site which was literally a search engine query box, some ads, and a single photo of a woman wearing a bikini (so I could use blogger's free hosting without getting shut down) that changed every day. I assume people set it as their homepage, which was the intention, and I made cash off the ads and any search engine use. What does that site make these days? ... about 3 cents a day. These days you need a great website as there are huge, huge, ones with all the content anyone could ever want out there.

Don't use adsense unless you want to get banned. They don't do adult, and I'm not even sure they accept bikini non-nude anymore like they used to. But yeah, it's possible, it's just not nearly as easy as you think. You're going up against some of the best minds in the tech industry.

I started by watermarking amateur photos and videos and then posting on image boards like *****. I always put "uploaded to website.com" rather than the website logo to try and cover myself. I'm not a lawyer but I'd imagine it's easier to get me out of trouble if the watermark just said it was uploaded to my site, rather than created by my site.

I also added white/black space so none of the text went over the actual content; that was to ensure that eventually the watermarks would be removed. As far as I'm aware none of the watermarked stuff is available anymore as it got cropped out by someone at this point.

The good news being once you have one site that gets good traffic, then it's just a matter of adding new niches to your navigation bar. Porn for the most part self advertises, people who like the site will tell others. It's not going to grow overnight but you should see steady growth.

edit: random thought, I wonder what happens if I make a .gif where the watermark appears on the second frame. If I use .jpeg extension I'm pretty sure the browser would still load and show the watermark, but if they save the image by right-click it might only save the first frame which is un-watermarked. I noticed a while back on Safari at least if I save a gif it only gives me the first frame. I'll have to see if that works.

SPOT on post, havent read a decent reply on these kind of threads in ages.

I have just 1 notice, as hosting provider i have seen my fair share of people trying to work around in the adult niche, and i can tell you that not all of them started with 10gbps streaming servers and full rack space`s of hdd`s.. And to be honest for a someone who is just starting it would be a waste of investment since it would be their first time and would probably only get lost in the sea of porn sites without proper management and advertising.

Dont get me wrong , if you know what you are doing than your suggestion is spot on, on how to TRULY start an adult website.

So OP i dont know and you have not mentioned your budget in your thread, but in my opinion if you are just jumping in the adult world i would suggest you to start off with selecting an adult niche ( anime , teen , hentai etc.. ) , build up a website or two around it and STICK to it. Than start working on your SEO part and try to bring in more traffic.

Dont forget that traffic is everything and content is king ( especially unique hard to find content ), so with this thought in place try to focus only on generating the traffic and not on monetizing.
I have seen a lot of people that are starting off and the first thing they do is setup the ADS on 0 Traffic ... I mean come on .. You dont want to scare away your audience you want to build it up...

So maybe after expanding to some more domains and after building up more websites that would generate you enough traffic, you will be able to play around with all above methods and try monetizing in any way you can think of ( popups , shops , cpa etc )..When you got the traffic than you can build real authority streaming website with all above mentioned specs which would step up your game and open new opportunities for you...

The purpose of the GIF is to show the watermark on screen, but if they save the image the watermark is automatically removed. This is so the watermark eventually "fades to black" for lack of a better term, as I don't want the watermark to be permanent and going around 5-10 years from now so I [presumably] reduce the chances of being sued.

Adult apps aren't that popular. You can't even make iOS adult apps as they won't be approved; Android you can make it but what's the point? You can make a website that's compatible with every device, or you can make an Android app where chances are you'll have to obscure it as while most people watch porn, most people don't want an app called "Porn!" or "XXX" or "BigBusts!" on their phone. It's just not worth doing.

Initially I used phpvibe ($80 I think) which is cheap but lacks even basic features, probably still better than using a WordPress theme though; then MechBunny ($499) which works but didn't scale very well.

I currently use Kernel Video Sharing as being able to separate the encoding server from the storage servers was important to me; the disadvantage being $99 is the base price but it comes to $897 out the door when you go with the Ultimate edition then add branding removal and 99% source code. It's also only licensed for a single domain and is enforced with ionCube. So IMO it's good but you do pay for it.

I've been looking at the software from Adent as I've been debating putting up a few real niche sites and dropping almost $900 on "CG Alien Porn" or whatever doesn't seem like the brightest idea. They allow unlimited sites and 100% open source, but I'm not entirely sold on their customer support. Yesterday I sent them a message asking if they had any live customer sites that I could see, got two URL's back. One doesn't work at all, and the other was definitely not a running site. The website mentions they have customer sites that I can request to look at but that doesn't seem to be true. When I started using KVS I was able to easily find "heavy hitter" (for lack of a better term) sites that use their software.

Edit: Occurred to me the new KVS price would be $1,046 as you probably want the tablet theme which is another $149. The standard one works but it's getting pretty dated. If you aren't in need of multiple servers, MechBunny can get the job done.

Wow bro, you are seriously going for it then. I checked Adent's once, specially looking into the cam script, but found it to be just way too expensive for me.
Have you ever been able to make the money back from your investments, or any money at all? Can u share your experience?
