My first niche site..

Starting from scratch here; I've read the stickies on ranking/kw selection. I found a kw with 3500+ searches a month and a KC under 30 (according to LTP). Avg. CPC is over $1.00 (barely).

The competition is a handful of manufacturers (not targeting the kw), a youtube video, and a pinterest page. Domain KC's are a little higher. Page ref domains range from 0 to about 20, but that doesn't seem to drive rank in this list. The domain is almost exact match.

Investments so far:
LTP (37/mo, still in trial)
Domain ($22, because maybe the googs likes to see more than one year)

Investments to come:
Content (<$100)
Hosting (<$10/mo)

Goals for this site: get adsense account, rank for an easy kw, get the site to pay for itself

Stretch goal for this site: $200/mo

More spend: $25 on prepaid hosting w/ vultr. Next step is to put together my content order, and then get WP up and running with a reasonable theme.

Any suggestions on reasonable themes? I am definitely going to try adsense and building a list.

I've read a bunch of "start your niche site" posts in various places, and the suggested minimum volume was 1-2k searches with $1 CPC. LPT suggests that the value of taking the number 1 spot is $100/mo with adsense. So for a stretch, I'll try to double it.

Breakeaven would amortize out the content, hosting and domain spend over a year, so $10/mo or so to pay for itself.

My theme suggestion for SEO is usually Genesis with 1140 child theme. it's an amazing theme for SEO since it doesn't have any random crap in it to slow down the site. I'm currently experimenting with a site using the Divi theme elegant themes. it's really beautiful however it uses all short codes in the backend which means it's almost impossible to migrate to a different theme.
However if you want to use it long term the divi builder 3.0 is probably the most user-friendly builder out there and you can pump out beautiful sites in minutes.

Adsense is the easiest in terms of getting started and making something especially if you picked a terrible niche. But what you make for the traffic you bring in is very little. For example, I have an Amazon site that gets 1/10th the traffic as my 2nd biggest Adsense site, yet brings in the same amount of revenue.

Unfortunately, my Adsense site is in a niche that really doesn't have much for good affiliate products. I created an eBook for it and that does OK, but Adsense is one of my best options for such a terrible niche. If you are in a terrible niche, then Adsense might be one of your better options, but generally speaking, affiliate sales and selling your own products are far more profitable per visitor.

That's helpful. There are some amazon products in my chosen niche, and way back in the day there were clickbank products around it too.

Think of some digital product you can sell. This might be a E-Course, a piece of software or a book, depending on your skill set. Let's say you don't have any skills execpt reading and writing. Then go into public domain publishing.

Find your keyword, find some books that are out of print/copyright, scan them and sell them over Amazon. It is much easier to rank a amazon product page than your own site, as it is a much more powerful domain. The money from the E-Book will be much more, than your adsense revenue.

If it works, branch out and create a YT channel for promoting your stuff. Once you got an audience, you have reached the point to create your own homepage for selling them your E-course + books, from your own plattform.

You are trying to put the horse before the cart, by doing things exact the other way around, which will inevitably fail.

Let's assume, you make your page first without having a loyal following and you really succeed in ranking your page.

Then what happens is what happens in all blackhat strategy, once G discoveries you are made out of thin air, it will crush your site.

Generally this is a bad idea, and the reason is because you don't really want to draw any attention to these sites. In fact you would rather they DID NOT rank for any keywords where people might stumble across and look at these sites in the first place.

Now if you are planning to treat these sites like your babies and feed them very well with great content then you can think about this, but then for starting out like you are this is just going to be a lot of work that you don't need.

So in your situation, no don't do this focus purely on exactly what you are doing for now, maybe later down the line you could think about it though.

Ad Sense can be a great monetising tool, when it is appropriate and this depends on your niche and type of keywords you have targeted. there is no one monetising method that is a perfect for every site and every niche and every kw.
Part of doing a niche is identifying which monetisation method is best suited for that niche/kw.

However people here cannot and should not advise you on this because they would need to know more about the niche in question (which you shouldn't really go into)

So it could be Ad Sense is a decent area to target, but do be aware of other methods, such as ebook, amazon, membership programs, content lockers and decide on the method best suited for your project.

p.s Adsense could be a great thing to start with as it is one of the easiest least hassle to get going so you could try AdSense now and then when you pick a new niche try a new type and keep going so you understand them all and can apply whichever is appropriate given the situation

p.p.p.s If you bought a brand new domain as it sounds like with the PMD you got, be aware it could take a while for things to start kicking into gear, so there might be a bit of a wait here before you see much happening.
