Transparent Software

I always come in the need of cropping or using the Transparent tool and many online sites do a horrid job and never come out with a good quality pic. So if anyone has any recommendations for software or a website that would be amazing. Also, keep in mind my I'm using a shit labtop so photoshop ect. is out of the picture.

Would've put it in misc but idk i guess. lol

You should be able to run photoshop 7.0 with just 1GB RAM else try GIMP.
