Profiting from SEO service email spammers.

I'll keep this short and simple. I think I've seen this on BHW before, and it may have even been posted by me in a thread somewhere, but I just did it again so I figured I'd outline this.

I get a shit ton of SEO services, web development, etc spam from people who do low quality work to my spam box. Every now and then I go in there and respond to a few of them seeming interested and ask to see a portfolio of some past work.

In 100% of the cases, the portfolio examples I receive are complete shit. And in 100% of the cases, even if they gave me a few examples, it's pretty easy to backtrace the rest of their client list.

I then contact those clients, explain to them that the service they received was shit, and that I can shovel the shit and replace it with gold lickety split. For $X,XXX. And then $XXX per month after that to maintain their website (meaning to update the plugins, keep the site hosted, and occasionally blast out a quick blog post.

I've contacted maybe 20 people about this. 11 didn't respond. 3 basically told me to fuck off. 1 had no clue what I was talking about. 1 was dead. 4 turned into paying clients. That's a 20% success rate. I'll take it.

Moral: Don't look at email spam as an annoyance. See it for what it is underneath: A free list of potential clients.

Thats awesome that you got 3 clients, to be honest now adays because all the scammers out there, most people will give you the bird. but hey 20% is 20% keep it up

The email on the contact form bounced back so I Googled the guy's name like a good little reputation manager and found his obituary. Pancreatic cancer. Fuck that.

we do something similar, but i lol @ 20% conversion rates. bashing their website (and decision) to go with the spammer usually doesn't lead to $x,xxx contracts. i wish it were this easy

I like your way of thinking, I think you and I have a lot in common. I do something similar but for a different list of people. Although, just curious aren't most of those spammers cheap stakes. I don't think they have 2 pennies to rub on, let alone enough money for your services.

The spammers are cheap, but the clients will pay if they are aware of the benefit that is offered.

Whois scraping, various tools I have signed up for, BHW and other forums, etc.
