So here's a quick history. About 2.5 years ago a started an ig account. Almost nothing happened. About six months later I started a new account targeting my niche and started using Followliker.

Things started to happen. I got followers and decent engagement. At the end of year one I had about 20k followers. I don't post a lot, once or twice a week. Posts would get between 200-300 likes in the first hour and usually somewhere in the 800-1500 range of likes overall. I'd follow around 500 a day and get around 100-150 follow back, 200+ on good days.

2016 rolls around and ig starts making changes. New algorithms, stories, live video, business accounts, banning listing unfollowers in the api. With each one my engagement takes a hit. Especially stories.

My engagement is dropping and my follow back rate is dropping with it. Some days it's lower than 50.

By the end of 2016 I've hit 40k followers and my engagement is lower than it was a year ago with half that number. At this stage I've been using a business account for a few months. The insights are telling me that my reach is only about 4-5k and my engagement is pretty low 300-500 likes on a post and almost no comments.

A few weeks ago I switch from Followliker to Mass Planner and implement a follow and like strategy. Previously it was just follow. Straight away things change for me. I start getting 150+ a day follow back but my engagement is still low. I start to think that FL might have been the problem. Then, after about 12 days my numbers start to drop again. I'm back to about 50-60 follow backs a day and 200-300 likes on a post.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a way forward? I'm now scared I've alienated everyone in my niche by following and unfollowing for too long.

If you wanted to try something a bit extreme, there have been several reports from members who disabled their Instagram account for 2 weeks in order to spike their engagement again. I guess the theory behind this is that doing this will "reset" flags against your account. I'm not sure if that's completely accurate - I've never tried it.

There are obviously a lot of downside to this; however, that's an option some people seem to be having success with.

It's because the filters to your FL is bad, they don't have any good filters.

You need proper filters and target to scrape and properly make sure they're active before following.

Using FL or massplanner does not change anything because they don't have a decent filter for you to use.

I'd beg to differ. Yes on that users need to input good filters. If you manually get crappy engagement and followbacks, using a bot (FL or MP, or anything else) will not help much.

What OP needs to do is input good filters/search options into FL. FL is very good in that you can like only users that like or commented on a certain hashtag and that posted 0-14 days ago, and had X or less likes on their most recent post. All of this can be done with FL.

And, yes, Instagram's new algorithm keeps changing and affecting everyone. You just have to post HQ content and try new ways to get to the right accounts to like/followback.

You think FL and MP filters are good ?

I've a custom scrapper which filters account

Media upload at least x number
have website link or no
Keep or discard username if keyword appears in bio
last upload
has email in bio or no
the rest of what FL filters have.

I'm getting 40% ratio follow back and 35% engagement rate on all accounts. If you can do this with FL let me know thanks and also the blacklist in FL stacks up if you unfollow at a certain period and it slows down the follow rate.

Also I don't follow from 500K followers or millions that accounts have < - This might be the reason why OP is having lots of dead followers.

I target smaller specific accounts of related niche.

Instagram's new algorithm doesn't mean shit because all will still be viewable, an average person spend enough time on instagram to see whatever feeds happens on today before leaving the app.

Most noobies blame it on IG algorithm but however it does not affect THAT much if you know what you're doing.

@IGKing does FL or MP will automatically not follow users that we've unfollowed? Thank mate.

That's correct, you have the option to blacklist and not follow any users you've previously followed/unfollowed.

You switch tools and implement a new strategy, what you haven't used with the previous tool and you assume that the previous tool is at fault. Where's the logic in that?

To answer your question: there are a couple of threads started recently, where several people reported, if they cease the follow/unfollow activity for a while, their engagement is starting to go back up. Maybe try that for a few days and see what happens.

I switched tools because FL didn't do follow and like very well. In fact I couldn't really get it to work at all.

I will try shutting down for a while.

Thanks for the replies. I've done some analysis on my MP follow source settings and discovered that some of them have terrible conversion rates so I've removed them.

Thanks for your comment mate. I've been also testing Instagram private APi to check all the info they expose to come up with some new strategies to scrape the right usernames.

Good to know that you are getting a huge engagement rate.

BTW, just out of curiosity. Which language are you developing in? (My case, Python)

Hey OP, maybe the problem is not the methods u gaining followers, but that in 2,5 year some of these accounts simply stoped using ig or not interested in your content anymore

I'm no, I hire someone to do it.

But the person used .net framework to make it.
