So i've found a good keyword i'm thinking of trying to rank for. Initial metrics look promising - Over 700 searches a month, only around 600k results in the SERPS and a Keyword Revealer competitiveness score of under 10. It's a "Best Product Name" type keyword and I've cross checked on Long Tail Pro and got similar results.

However i'm now at the stage of doing competitor analysis and was hoping to get some advice from more knowledgeable people here to confirm if this is worth going for. Some info on competition as follows:

PA/DA
1st - 12/11 - 8 backlinks
2nd - 1/20 - No backlinks
3rd - 33/31 - 2 backlinks, 1 from russian site
4th - 17/25 - Similar to above
5th - 1/48 - No Backlinks
6th - 12/11 - Same site as 1st place??
7th - 18/6 - EMD for keyword, 4 backlinks
8th - 1/6 - Inner page of above,
9th - 1/97 - Amazon page
10th - 1/14 - No backlinks

None of this sites (with the exception of amazon) are anything great to look at, content volume is average also. Most do not have keyword in their title of url's and in fact seem to be optimised for other keywords instead. Also when looking at back link profiles nothing that came up with SEO Spyglass jumped as being something to worry about.

Is this worth going for do you think??

Thanks in advance

Numbers 2, ( possibly 5 ) and 10 look like they might be propped up by PBNs. Are they showing social profiles ?

SEO Spyglass shows nothing for them as does Keyword Revealer in terms of back links. Number 10 does seem to have some decent content though, i think 5 is there because of DA the site has as it's in other niches too. Worth a go you think?

Yes I don't see why not.
Especially as you've said they're not optimised for the main keyword. G/L.

Thanks for the quick advice man.

Just one more thing if you could please. For amazon affiliate sites how long would you wait after buying a new domain and doing on page etc before starting to build back links and do off page?

Usually when the results in the first page don't have the keywords in the title and URL, it's easy to get number 1
