Anyone seen this? Site ranks well yet practically no google traffic!

I've got this site that's been up for quite some time and it's gone nowhere really. Finally made a sale so I decided to have a look at it and maybe do more work to it. The name of the site is something like "Buy X X Online" and the domain is exactly that as well. I'm checking the stats and there's maybe a couple hits from google search a day. Now here's what's got me wondering what the hell is going on.

Turns out, the site is #1 for the "Buy X X Online" search phrase and google says that it gets searched for about 210 times a month, That's 7 potential hits a day and yet I'm not seeing 1 single hit for that phrase.

So I'm looking at the keywords and google says that just "Buy X X" gets about 5400 a month, 180 a day. I check the SERPs and I'm surprised to see I'm ranked about #8 on the first page. And yet again, not one single hit for that phrase.

What the hell?

Update. I have google set to display 100 results per page and just changed it to 10 which, surprisingly, changes the SERPs. I'm ranked higher that I thought for the "Buy X X" phrase and for "Buy X" I'm 3rd from the bottom of page 1.

googles search count isnt really accurate I find. Are you using adwords keyword tool?

Yes, I'm using the adwords keyword tool for those numbers... I was initially looking at all countries for those numbers. Changing it to US only drops the numbers by about a third.

The thing is with adwords, is that it displays the amount of times an adsense module comes up in a search, not necessarily the amount of times its being searched. In other words it shows when the keyword you see is being shown as a featured link. That means that people arent necessarily searching for that term, but something similar to it. For example I may search "weight loss" and a featured link for "lose weight" or "lose fat" may appear.

Anyways, use wordtracker its much more accurate

do you really think all potential searchers will click exactly on your link???
there are also 10's of other results and if there is 210 searches a month you can expect ~1-10% CTR depening on your position description of your page and other factors... it seems that you expect that ALL potential clicks will be only to your site????!!!

No I don't. But if you noticed, I said there were NO clicks for the phrases.

Adwords does tend to lie sadly, for your keyword phrase, check the sites ranking for that KW prhase using compete.com, and see if there getting traffic.
