[Journey] Learning To Build A Site That Ranks

Alright so a quick late update. I was focused on another project after this one was stagnating for over a month. I've turned my attention back to it after it had a large ranking spike. This was across the board for all the posts and targeted keywords. I think it was because of post interlinking, after I posted a post, pretty much everything spiked 40 points on rankings for tracked keywords.

I've slightly shifted my strategy to get as much traffic as I can from SERPs. I'm still aiming for a mini authority site. Right now I'm finding no comp keywords and just writing small articles on them to snag them and long tails. Regardless of their monthly volume. Right now the only stat I'm paying attention to is Impressions on WMT. The higher I can get this value, the more exposure I get, and once it reaches an acceptable rate I can start split testing pages to learn how to get some CTR on the SERPs. I've posted 8 articles in the last two weeks with these low comp keywords and you can see my impressions went from about 20 a day to 140. My first goal is to hit a consistent 250 a day in however many articles it takes. After that I'm going to start link building to get front page impressions.

I get about 2 unique users a day from organic (28 so far this month), and 17 of those clicked through to amazon. No sales though. The tracked keywords are more for general "how I'm doing in the niche" info than how I'm doing for a targeted commercial term.

Keeping another quick update. Daily impressions are up. Did two guest posts and got some PBNs. Really close to my impression goal (250 daily). Hoping to hit it by next weekend, planning 5 inner pages. This is going really slowly, but I'm hoping to start getting daily traffic soon.

Hope to see the pbn's effect kick in soon! All the best buddy.

Could get some expired web 2.0s / expired tumblrs if you want a safe ish boost

Alright Boys another quick update!

PBNs brought my site up from page 3 to page 2, but kept me off page one, they got close 12-15, then dropped out to 18 after they left home pages. Still pushing a bit of content out, it's not much I've been working on a hobby a lot more than my site. But I reached my previous goal of around 250 impressions a day. UV is around 3 haha soooo bad.

But you know what's not bad!
MY FIRST SALE ON AMAZON. They bought something tangentially related to my niche, and not what I was actually targeting.

Oftentimes I'll get about 1 Click to amazon a day on average, it seems to come in batches though. Like 3 one day then 0 the next 2. My current plan is to start looking into finding outreach and paid backlinks on niche relevant sites. The PBN seem way too unstable for me, and if I can pay a few webmasters for some links in already done articles I'd much rather do that. But I feel like my content needs to be tighter. I've also gotten better at Semrush, so I'm going to start using it more effectively to find post topics and hopefully get some search volume pumping through my site with new good quality, articles targeting keywords that aren't useless haha.

Congratulations!
The first sale is always the sweetest, isn't it? Ahah.

Don't forget to diversity your backlink types to make your site profile look natural.

Hey

Interesting journey that I'll be following for sure.
What's the software used in the screenshots where you can see how do the keywords rank?

Where did you learn all the stuff about SEO?

Serplab.co.uk for rank tracking. I'm still working through trying to figure it out, mostly learned from the forum and just researching here and on the web. But I still don't know enough lol.

Congratulations!

It feels very sweet. I'm pretty much solely outsourcing backlinks. So I'm a little lost on how to fabricate diversity. Plus I feel these diversity packages look way more "diverse" than a natural backlink profile for a white hat site would be. I mean how many sites naturally get backlinks from obscure web2.0s and edu profile pages.

Alright so here's the month end. I haven't added any content lately, really busy. Also suck a KW research within my niche so it's hard to find easy targets. I have adsense and Azon on the site, and the day after the sale I got a few clicks on adsense. The two don't compete, but I have info articles (no buyer intent) and fill those with Adsense. Buyer intent search pages get Azon links. If I get some time this weekend I'll pound out an article or three for the site. But I'm kind of unsure how to go about SEO. More content, or more links? I don't know the answer for more traffic.

I figure it's time for another update. Three months after the last journey post I did nothing with the site. However in that time frame either the age, (6mo) or PBN backlinks or something clicked in big G's eyes and my site jumped in rankings. It was minor but site-wide, but some of my pages went top 3 for small search terms.(<250 a mo). It's started generating revenue, I'd say about 90% Amazon, 10% adsense. Also had a previous impression goal of 250 a day, I'm up at 1000 a day now. It's mainly a review site with product reviews. There's also some fluff info articles on extremely easy search terms and adsense.

If I had to guess I'd say backlinks are better than content for growing monthly traffic.

I've found that my rundowns of 5+ products are a lot less effective than my pages that review a specific model. Both for google clickthrough and amazon sales. Most of my inner page backlinks are to those types (because I link silo from them to specific product reviews) So my next step is to start getting some PBN links from the marketplace to these specific reviews that are currently up. I dont feel bad about this because the site's making revenue now. Then I'll start writing more individual reviews. I have a list of 30 products I could get started on reviewing but I want to see PBN rank boosts before I get started...

May - $6
June - $14
July - $51
and so far this month about $25

Here's where the site ended up this Aug. In total it made $53.49 USD this month. Technically this month is closer to $58 but those 2 unshipped items are preorders for Bluray collectors sets shipping in september and unrelated to my niche. The site is currently on par with last month so I think it was as far as it was going to go on my previous investements. The rankings are still not maxed out, and there's a lot of room for improvement. So to boost the income of the site I did some pretty major things this month.

First I looked into some clickbank offers that line up with my niche, and found a real nice one. It's approx $95 per sale commission so I wrote a native ad article and linked out to the sales page. It's currently rank 80-90 (It started at 50 and bounced up). Which leads me to my next thing, I've invested very heavily in some PBN links. I spent about $300 on the BST, and personally indexed all the links over the month so they're all in google's system now. I put a large amount towards the clickbank page, and a bit to each of my specific item reviews. I also ordered some outreach to get a high DA backlink for the clickbank page, still waiting on that one. The dance is starting up now, about 2 weeks later but I dont expect to see the full effects until the end of September.
