Crazy Google Dance In The Last 24 Hours

I love my domain too :) I have 1 more authority site (Not the one in the case study) that was affected and I don't want to rush it yet. But if you want an honest feedback. Wait for a week or 2. I just redirects one of my lovely semi-authority niche site that has been making $1k for months.

What I did before redirecting, edit old posts and add more content, remove all link back to the homepage. It is a static page, so I reduce the mention of the primary keyword. Use a lot of variations of the KWs. (i.e. blue widget, widgets of blue etc.).

What I will do in the next week. Add more content on some old posts and new informational articles.
Send some social signals to the homepage and other landing page.
Buy an SEO service and use more than 10+ anchor test for it.
Add more content.

Then wait for another 1 week to see how it will go. (You can get in touch then, and I will tell you if this works or not.)

Thanks.
Being an algorithmic penalization, I guess is mandatory to change the content on the cloned site. If not, when Google recrawls it, will penalize the new site too.

If redirecting+modifying the site+ sendin new links recovers it better than just modifying the original site + adding new links is what's difficult to say, I guess.

Will keep reading about your experiment!

Everyone talking about Google watching link clicks to a website from a link to determine value. REALLY Omg like for real people! If that was a ranking factor do you really think they are that stupid. I know they own a patent about such rubbish but it wouldnt be hard to set up bots to crawl from proxys and click your links all day long! AIT. If it is a factor then it will be easier to AIT then build any more links!

In my opinion, it's not that simple.

Sites without PBNs got hit. Sites with PBNs got hit.

Sites with ads got hit. Sites without ads got hit.

Old sites got hit. New sites got hit.

So damn confusing, I give props to anyone who can find a clear pattern in this mess.
Yea but the sites linking to sites that link to sites that got hit could of had their links devalued meaning their links got devalued further back trough the chain.

I did 301 redirect on one of my website and 2 of my client websites. Both recovered. I also start building links to my own website. I asked the provided to start immediately, since all the links will not be crawled in a week anyway. Now, this site is sitting on top 5 for various keywords and my client websites are in the top 10 to 20.

I just 301'ed another client site and lets see what will happen again in about 1 to 2 weeks.

I never did whole site redirect before, only expired domain redirect
Do you use this kind of code? it redirect sample.com/post-url.php -> sample.net/post-url.php

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example.com [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.net/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

Thanks

That will work too. But I use just this simple code:
Redirect 301 / http://www.example.com/

Bought a new domain and move every files to it. Everything else remain the same. Expect, this newest one I redirected a few hours ago. What I did is edit the content and add some words. I have not touch this website for more than 1+ years. And back then, I just buy 10x500 words etc. Now, some of them are 900, 1300, 2500, 3000+words, etc.

Just to add, i add some social signals to the new domain - I don't know if it has an positive effect on it though -

Actually, the first 3 are not AUTHORITY LIKE sites. I use my own small website to test the 301 recovering method. it worked and showed the proofs to my clients and did it for 2 more websites. All of them have recovered and I don't know how long it will last.

The same niche? The 3 websites? No. They are all in different niche.

Leave your links alone at least for now. Try to add some quality content on your home page (I'm assuming that's the page you're trying to rank/recover). Right now besides generic titles that can found elsewhere, you have nothing (unique) in there. And give it some time, a week or two to see if it works. If it doesn't move on to cleaning up your links. Even if you disavow some links, you won't see improvement overnight. And remove some add, you have too many given the lack of content on your home page.

So one of my websites were hit recently going from 100k unique views per day down to 40k. That was.. painful. However, as of the last 5 days, it's steadily creeped back up to 65k. I'll see how it goes over the next week.

All I did was remove one of three advertisements and remove my site-wide link exchange links (around 4 of them.)

Not touching my backlinks. Not touching my on-site optimization. Not touching anything other than the link exchange links and the advertisement amount. Will update if my traffic continues to go back up.

Btw my site used to be 1 for alot of keywords, majority now went to 7-9th and some went n/a do you think i should attempt a double 301?

Based on the feedback here and elsewhere I'd say that it's pretty safe to assume that this update targets 'quality' on multiple levels. I don't know how your website looks like but if it is something like the 'carfuelcalculator' removing ads won't do the trick.

If I were you, before doing '301' I'd take a good look at the website (content) to see if there is something else that could be done to bring it back up. On the positive, you didn't drop to a 2nd, 3rd or 5th page. You dropped from 1st to 7th position. And if you do any changes, keep a log file so if it doesn't work you can easily revert back to where you were before.

Thats very true, but at the same time my content was ranking #1, before this 'Fred' Update. I don't think its much of the content then it is with Anchor and Outside Links and stuff.. Because was it that big of a drastic change? that my content was bad after the update? I have 1K words on the first page, while the competitor has like 300 words ...

Just because you were ranking #1 for some keywords before this 'Fred' update doesn't mean that you're OK now. Things have changed. At least you have something to work with, as you said, some of your keywords have dropped from 1 to 7th and some to N/A. Take a good look at what's the difference is between those(pages) that have dropped a few points to those that are now N/A. Moreover, having 1K words on the first page doesn't guarantee first spot. If those 300 words of your competitor are better than 1K of yours, they'll rank better than you. Again, I haven't seen your website, I don't know what it is about, but based on the info you've posted here I'm giving you some ideas that you might look into.

Honestly im going to try double 301 redirect ill let yall know the results
