Well traffic to a link IS already a small part of the algo.I don't think most people realize just HOW insanely complicated the algo is.

If sites like Moz and Ahrefs with massive amounts of data can't figure Google out, then a bunch of dudes on a forum definitely won't either.

And as Google becomes more integrated with A.I. technology, it becomes exponentially more difficult to "game the system".

Exactly. The smart guys (who are on long term projects) are moving that way already. If you can find a way of getting what you want while not interfering with Google's general goals (quality content, trustworthy sites, etc) then you are on the right path long term. But still... there are PLENTY of short cuts that don't get in Google's way.

Since 19.3 to 23.3 I was dropping from pages 1-2 to 5-10. Anyone else dropped in last 4 days?

That could be kw density in my case or internal linking, because now the internal pages that had no ranking purpose and are one week old are ranking better. (less competition but still, and theres no overoptimization)

There more I read and look at my site I'm pretty sure that this update has more to do with onpage SEO. (unless they targeted multiple factors) I think a week or so before the update I bought some PBNs (naked URL) to boost 2 my posts because they were losing some rank. One post is ranking back on the 1st page. As for the second, only one keyword out 7 (they are related) has come back to 11th position and the rest are on 2nd - 3rd page of SERP. One even slipped a couple of days ago to 5th page. My keyword density is very low, around 1% and lower. Around 4k words article. No ads and a few affiliate links. So seeing this if the update has something to do with links and anchor text I'm assuming that all my keywords would have been affected one way or the other. Which is not the case.

Those who got a really good boost in ranking and traffic during this update might not even know why ...

I think this update is related to content quality and not backlinks. If you lost your rankings, it may not necessarily be because of this update, updates often coincide with other factors unique to individual sites.

I doubt this will be a long term solution, all known penalties and filters, manual or algorithmical, are transfered via a 301...sooner or later.
