Small Question About Large Linkwheels

Just a small question about linkwheeling, since the largest wheel I've made was only 10 spokes, can I repeat web 2.0 sites in my wheel? For example, can I use two spokes with blogspot.com? I'm planning on doing something along the lines of xyz.blogspot.com -> squidoo.com/xyz -> myxyz.blogspot.com.

Or should I try for unique web 2.0 sites and just make another wheel around each spoke?

I would recommend only using each web 2.0 once per wheel. There are easily enough out there, I once made a 32 spoke wheel using different properties. As for the practice of building mini wheels around existing wheels, I have never felt the need to do this. It is not required for ranking success. However, I would recommend building high PR backlinks to all your spokes.

To be honest, I'm trying to rank for a high competition keyword, so your advice on backlinks will definitely be something I'll take into mind.

Just to put the web 2.0 backlinks into perspective, I created a web 2.0 with a single spun article about promo codes. Using comment spam, I created:

3 x PR5, 4 x PR4 and 2 x PR3 backlinks with "promotional code" as the anchor text

This keyword is very general, and thus difficult to rank for. Last time I checked, I was number 5 for it. My explanation is the power of high PR backlinks combined with Google's trust of web 2.0 platforms.

Of course, promotional code alone is not very monetizable, but I made the site for cleaning spam juice and injecting it into my other sites.

You don't have to make a new linkwheel around each spoke.

Build backlinks to each spoke using RSS feed, directory submission and bookmarking.

Then create a BRAND new linkwheel - rinse and repeat.

It's much more effective.

Hubpage is no follow until you get to a certain level....but it ranks very well in the big G
They dont allow porn, drugs, or gambling (the bastards) but they will rank very high.
I build my linkwheels around hubpages and do well in the serps but cant make a sell to save my ass.
Perhaps its my keywords or something....but oh well at least I make front page of G!

Yeah..i think everybody face the same problem with hub..they are really suck..but..it's not really hard tho..just add other modules like news..poll or whatever..it should be ok..i've done it several times already..

I have been able to place an affiliate link in bold at the top of my hubs without them getting taken down. I add the link later after I've determined if the hub will rank or not. This is true of squidoo and wordpress.com as-well.

As for hubpages being nofollow, I personally do not think it's very important. I do not think that linkwheels concentrate link juice very effectively, and having a nofollow block in the chain is nothing to worry about. PR is distributed evenly through all outbound links - there are so many on hubpages and squidoo that it stretches the imagination that you'll be sending power juice to your money site.

However, the wheel is good for 2 other things: driving targetted traffic, and main content links from relevant content sites. The G bot will see this and assign the link a higher value (we hope).

Did you find the larger spoke wheel worked better then a smaller spoked wheel lets say 5-7 sites?

From my experience, 16 sites seems to be the right amount. The (32) wheel was a lot of effort, I ranked but it was hard work, not to mention building links. Doing 16 sites won't tax you too much, but will ensure that at least some of your properties will end up on page 1 - provided you use the right content and add backlinks.

Aside from how many spokes, when talking about successful...this is for how popular a search term? 5k per month, 10k 50k??? And do you limit yourself from going after a term that has 1M pages 2M etc etc. What are the criteria for saying to yourself, 'yes I can achieve a page 1 ranking with this linkwheel' and setting it up? What's the criteria for saying 'no' and moving on to another? If a keyword/keyterm has 1M pages and 5k in searches you would use a 6 spoke wheel and say 'yes'? For a 10M pages term and 50k in searches you would use a 16 spoke wheel and say 'yes' or 'no'? Is there a set of parameters to follow or that can be recommended?

Was the site that ranked on page 1 a web 2.0 property or your main website? If it was your main site was it a fairly new domain or old? How old is it?
How long did it take you to get to page 1 after creating your link wheel?

I have a 10 spoke linkwheel I recently created for a new site with 385,000 exact match keyword and it is not in the top 10 pages yet. The site and linkwheel are both about a month old.

You need to build Backlinks now to sites from your linkwheel.

After a certain time then you will see results.

Biscut - It was one of my web 2.0 sites. However, I was able to successfully monetize it by placing my affiliate link at the top without penalty.

And yeah, always build strong backlinks to the spokes of your linkwheel. Once you get fast at link building, it's not all that hard. I was able to "process" a PR4 or higher backlink for 200 of my web 2.0s in a single day (no automation).
