For raising my website's domain authority, I know getting backlinks from sites with high domain authority (90+) can be very beneficial.

If I do get a backlink from a website with high domain authority and then its removed after 4-5 weeks, is there still any lasting benefits for my website? I know it could potentially increase traffic to my website but what about in regards to domain authority?

Google hates backlinks getting deleted. So no, there's no long term benefit.

Thank you — what is the benefit of having temporary high quality backlinks then? Is it just for the 4-5 weeks of increased traffic?

Nothing. Unless you get referral traffic, then nothing.

Anecdotal, but I'll throw it into the mix: I've had temporary links boost a site enough to give it visibility, which then results in traffic, which, I think in some cases, is a quality signal (people click on site, stay on site, revisit site later). I agree though, having links removed, especially from a 'high authority' domain that also has a lot of link churn, isn't a long-term SEO strategy.
