Need a new wifi router

Not sure if this is correct place to post this, but I hope you guys can help me chose a new wifi router as you all know so much about all n/w stuff.

I need a new wifi dual band router with good range (should work around a 1400 sq. feet house with brick walls in rooms).
Dual band needed as i would stream movies through chromecast.
looking for qos & DD-wrt support. Budget < 50-60

It is impossible to do that with one wi fi router, you need at least 3 so you can get a good coverage.

You need a good swich and you will need to configure the routers to not be in the same channel.

my Linksys WRT54GL has never failed me, it's Linux based, can be pimped with unofficial firmwares which makes it highly customizable

Do you have any old computer parts lying around? If you do, you can make a much better router for the price.

You have brick walls internally? I highly doubt that. I would imagine that the external walls are brick which won't matter inside very much. Any router should cover 1400 sq. ft. but it depends on where in the home it's set up and where you will normally access the router. If you have a TV and computer, how far are they actually from where the router will be?

Its more money than you are looking at but I can really recommend a Billion 7800DXL.
Solved problems caused by a concrete wall with steel reinforcing bars in that killed the wifi and mobile coverage.
Previously had tried the popular ones like netgear and a bt home hub and they didnt work.

thanks for the suggestions .. there are some good options in single band but not in dual band, if i go by reviews.
Is the dual band thing really good for streaming movies thru chromecast ?

If walls are just brick (no metal) a single router can work. if you have lots of metal might not offer full coverage. just place the router in the middle of the house or in a courner and build a Windsufer/EZ-12 antenna from a cardboard and some aluminium foil. Keep in mind that one is for 2.4GHz and won't work well for 5GHz (has to be redimensioned to proper size). Make sure the router has detachable antennas and buy short pigtails so you can space the antennas to allow you to install the EZ-12. Most likely you won't need it though, but for 1400sq.ft. area with walls you're going to loose some signal and speed.

About the model... can't recommend any but really just go with whatever meets your requirements.
