They can help to rank in Google over time. It used to be really quick ranking a video in YouTube with spam backlinks. Currently I'm using 301 shortened urls as well GSA and PBN links to raise the rankings of of my YouTube videos.

I've found that social signals do bugger all for YouTube videos. It may be the niches that I'm targeting though. The best advice I can give you is to try it yourself if you have the money.
GSA used to work really well when directly pointed at a YouTube video, but not so much anymore. I filter the GSA links through 301s (YT is effectively a parasite). I also point the PBN links directly to the YouTube video. If the posts aren't on your own network then you shouldn't be getting access to the URLs since they technically be private.

What you could do instead would be to take an expired blog and make a post on it and include your YT video. Then point the PBNs towards that post along with hitting it with 301s and GSA. The benefit of this is that the expired blog should also get a boost in metrics, and it's acting like another tier for your videos.

Thanks for the feedback about it. By and large the setup on how I rank a video is the same as ranking any parasite.
Granted, on that thread I'm using the cheapest possible options which are more than suitable for low to medium competition keywords but the principles are the same. One of the main things I always try and suggest though is to have a detailed description. It doesn't need to be huge, but at least get the main keywords in a few times.
