If this is true OMFG

Next computer I build will be based on the Xeon processor E7-8890 v4 chip. AMD that.

I won't suggest to go with AMD... I have a laptop with AMD what was promised to perform same as i3 but it's not actually equivalent to it even with Radeon R5 Graphics 2GB... bad experience!

Amd is coming out with naples which is 32 cores/64 threads and 64MB of cache.
During the TL-64 days I was a fan of AMD. I do not see AMD catching up soon. The company is hard hit by funding problems and well behind in other areas. Most of what AMD claims is vaporware - it does not perform in the real world as they claim. AMD, more than Intel, arranges the company benchmarks for the best light. Generally after release people realize that they were again conned.

Going the other way, I have friends in the Eu. that will only use AMD graphics cards. The reason is open source Linux compatibility. I am far from a purist though, I use what is best. Right now that is Nvidia and Intel. In the future it will change, but I do not think it will be either Intel or AMD. The world is moving to SOC's. The leaders in SOC's are Samsung and Qualcomm, Intel is a distant third, but the Atom processors are failing.

For general consumer chips they will probably not only catch up but beat intel except for the really extreme enthusiasts. The advantage they have is that they aren't going to tying up so much of the die size for intergated graphics.

Xeons are freaking sweet, if I bought that same cpu you are considering I could probably game on ultra 4K/8K until the late 2020's without it being a bottleneck.

You are probably correct. However, look at it another way. When I was last in college (>15 years ago) one of my assignments was to write a program to calculate every possible combination in a game of seven card stud. The purpose of the assignment was to illustrate the difference between stochastic and and heuristic programming. I wrote the program and ran it for a week straight without reaching the end of the possibilities. I am now working with a larger dataset >129 million possibilities. I pulled out the above exercise as a comparison. In less than five seconds, I stochastically computed all possible variations in seven card stud. I then computed my dataset. It averaged less than ten seconds. The calculation is so fast that I compute it rather than read it map from a drive. 10 seconds to compute and > 1.5 minutes to read. But such is the difference in chips.

I compared the benchmarks of the AMD against the Xeon I want. The AMD is a little faster on those marks. However, the articles did specify that they had no way to know how AMD clocked and over clocked the CPU, or what other optimizations were done for the benchmarks.

For gaming its different, all the various synthetic benchmarks aren't going to matter. What will matter is how they compare at different price levels for the High frame rate, the average frame rate, minimum frame rate and the frame time.

I am thinking of upgrading my desktop anyone can give me money ? i am broke af

This post has the most clickbait title. Good info though, maybe it's about time to swap out my cpu.

in performance amd is one of the best i have old amd a8 and it is really super fast.

I am a AMD fan, will grab this as soon as it comes :D

finally my 7 yr old baby will get an upgrade, yep still running dat old AMD pc and still going strong :)

I've been an AMD fan for a long time. My first PC (and second) has an AMD Athlon XP CPU in it and these were so much faster than the Pentium 4's that Intel were pushing out. After I made the jump to laptops, it really was Intel that had a monopoly on high powered CPUs. Having said that, I was seriously shafted by Nvidia and the infamous defect they had with mobile GPUs years ago and it spurred me on to get a laptop with an AMD GPU instead. It wasn't super expensive, but it could play Crysis 1 and 2 as well as GTA IV on medium settings at 720p. Anyone that's played GTA IV on the PC knows it's pretty underoptimised.

Eventually I did go back to NVidia again and I'm rocking a GTX 970M just now in my laptop, but I'm so excited about how AMD are going to fight back. The RX 480 was a belter of a GPU at a low price point, and Ryzen should really be a return to the good old Athlon days.

AMD has some really great mobile gpu's now but afaik its only on the macbooks. Supposedly the new apu's they are coming out later this year will be on par with PS4 graphics. The A10 series is still better than the intergated graphics intel offers, but the older cpu part is limiting its performance in some areas of games like GTA V.

sir take a towel and clean dirty icons on desktop, then you right click and refresh. This refreshes your desktop icons sir + cleans your wallpaper from dirt dear.

Always liked AMD for when on a budget will certainly hit this up when I can :) . Might make the move over soon.
