You can make money with Adsense, provided you have lot of traffic.
Nowadays Adsense displays ads that the user may be interested in (according to Google's analysis). The ads may not be related to the content or keywords or theme of the website that the user is visiting.

Since Google has over 60% of their search results covered in ads, they take all the valuable ads for themselves.
Adsense sites show the leftovers. Normally pennies per click, with some random exceptions.
As to your original question, there is only one way to find out: try it and see! With a potential for 5k visitors, maybe your visitors will browse around and click more expensive ads in other pages.

This has to be the worst advice I have seen ever. Of course you can make money with adsense they are the best paying network out there overall.
Yes, if you can drive traffic to your site via organic keywords then you can make money regardless of what the CPC is on the keywords that send traffic to your site. Adsense uses way more than just keywords to place ads on your site, they will place ads targeted to each person that shows up on your site based on their browsing habits and what info google holds n them from searches, sites visited and so on. Adsense goes way beyond just placing ads based on a sites content, adsense pushes ads based per person not per site.
You only ever get ads showing to people based on your sites content if they are browsing in incognito mode or google holds no previous cookies (browsing data/searches) on them etc.
Drive the traffic and see how you get on. If it has little competition then you don't need much effort to rank organically anyway so just do it.

you won't make money with adsense unless you have huge traffic to your site
if/when you do have this huge volume of traffic - it would be stupid to waste it on adsense as most probably you will be paid cents - some people happy to earn cents and $1 a day can be a big money at some places, but if OP is looking to get decent payments he should look for other networks and can use adsense only as a backfill

LOL, I don't spend all my time frequenting BH forums. My post count means nothing in reality nor does a post count here equate to experience, surely you understand that having 1,000+ posts on a forum doesn't mean anything. I am certainly not a newbie. Perhaps actually commenting here I am but when it comes to adsense I certainly know more than you.
I used to run a site very similar to liveleak (sold now for multiple millions of $s), adsense was my top income, ecpm is huge compared to all other networks that are used such as taboola and propellerads for pop. I can tell you now from actual experience that not many networks out there can match adsense for revenue, fill and relevance.
Do not judge a person based on their post count, that's completely moronic.

what i meant by newbie is that your status on forum is 0 and your advice may mean something really good or really bad and there's no way to know it, but yes, my status is pretty cool and I love it
i do have a huge doubt that you sold anything in your life, especially super-profitable site for multiple-millions and there's 2 reasons:
- either project was dying and you sold it to an idiot
- it wasn't working at all and you sold it to and idiot
that's what moronic
it also looks like your experience with adsense is quite outdated - it was a good network 3-5 years ago, but not anymore

Your opinion is NOT my reality. So all sites sold are sold because there failing or because an idiot buys them? Go give that advice to Yahoo, they could of done with your words of wisdom prior to acquiring Tumblr, or perhaps to AOL before buying Bebo. You presume I sold to an individual? LOL, go take a look over at IAC, and see what online businesses they acquire, I'm not talking low level Flippa crap.
