Confused about youtube copyright

Hi,

I see a few different types of channels that do compilations, of music, and mixes etc.

Some of these seem to have no problems with copyright, the channels are still alive.

However, some channels (like youtube mix channels) seem to get taken down quite frequently.

My question is, in order to stay alive are some of these channels working out deals with the copyright holders? or are they flying under the radar enough for YT to leave them alone?

I get the feeling there are some channels white-listed by youtube (maybe bz theyre so big), then also maybe youtube themselves are running some of the channels (covertly) so they can control the content etc, without running into copyright issues themselves... just thinking off the top of my head here.

Seems like a really really grey area. For instance, youtube flat out says in their terms that compilations are not allowed, but the whole of youtube is literally riddled with them.

Maybe it's a bit like the SEO industry and everyone telling you not to try and acquire links , when in reality thats exactly what you should be doing. heheh

Is there anyone making any decent money on compilations?

Just wondering how does this work in practice? Does the channel owner just say, ok ill pay you everything from that video - and the content creator just accepts it? How is this handled when you have multiple videos in your channel, or even multiple videos in your compilation? Do you split the revenue between all? Is the channel owner expected to strike up a relationship with every track we share on youtube? even in mixes/compilations?

The claimant is allowing their content to be used in your YouTube video. However, ads might appear on it.

When this happens , you will not get a strike , because you have his permission to use it , but what the video makes ( revenue ) it will be sent to the owner !

Second , if they do not allow their content to be shared , it may appear like I said before , or it could not and eventually you will get a strike and your YouTube account will be taken down .

Tip : you can make videos with content that is allowed to be shared just to build a Subscriber base and then create your own videos that you can monitize and earn some revenue . Hope this helps !
