Usally it mention as a competition and if you enter for just ? You win a 5k car , the winning ticket will be drawn when the competition bottle get full to the top ...

I used to have a very successful offline business doing competitons in the uk, although quite a while ago before the national Lottery was established. The trick is to make it a "game of chance'. The simplest form we found was a kind of spot the ball type thing... literally draw an x on the entry form - this will get you round the lottery rules and stay within the law.
We sold tickets for a quid and had sales people all around the country on a commission for each sale. Our biggest prize for one comp was a BMW 3 series and we sold a shitload of tickets. Each comp ran for 3 months and we usually covered all our prize costs within the first 2 weeks and the rest was pure profit.

Another good point is to try to tie in with a charity and give a percentage of the face value of the ticket to them - this makes selling much easier but finding suitable charities to work with can be a challenge.

We did investigate that at one time - the Charity Commission rules back then made it very difficult for us to go down that route, but today it may be much easier.

We didn't just have cars though We gave holidays, washing machines, TV's, gift vouchers etc. There were usually over 500 prizes so people felt as though they had a good chance of winning.
