Web 2.0 domain question

i seen in a post that someone was creating web 2.0's with sub domains. Is this ok? I've never herd of it before. If this is something that can be done should it be on different hosting setups from your main site and can you still use the main domain for a money site?

It seems like a lot of this would connect all your sites and cause problems with ranking.

This guy was talking about using domains that are purchased. That's what got me confused

Oh I see, I have a few domains I use in this way. I don't call them web 2.0 however. I would just make subdomains, put some content on them and blast them with tier 2 links. I do use different hosting for these domains than my money site.

The other advantage is to keep control of your content. In case a web2 provider shuts you down, you keep your subdomain and host it elsewhere provided you have a backup.
